Melanin is the pigment which gives us our skin, hair and eye colour. It is our natural sunscreen to protect against UV light. The paler our skin is, the less natural UV protection we have.

Over the years, UV exposure damages the melanocyte (cell that makes melanin) and the melanocyte fails to function properly. This leaves us with darks and light patches.
Heat, hormones and injury can also cause pigmentation problems.

At Wexford Skin Clinic we use a UV skin scanner to determine how deep the pigmentation is and this can guide us in our treatment plan.

We will also prescribe a home care plan with ingredients to lift off the hyper pigmented cells, to balance the melanocyte and to protect and prevent further damage.
